Facebook Business Page Made Easy

CREATE A FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE IN 5 EASY STEPS

Facebook Pages are free for organisations and public figures to connect with other people in an official, public manner.  With over 400 million global users on the site every month, Pages has created more than 5.3 billion connections.

You may already use Facebook for personal reasons such as keeping up with your friends or sharing photos, but the idea of running a business page on the world’s largest social network might still seem a little intimidating.  Where do you start?  How much work will it take?  Will I attract customers to my Etsy shop?  How can I link my Facebook Page to Etsy? What should my goals be?Panic no more!  The following is a guide offering step-by-step instructions to create a Facebook Page for your Etsy business.’

There are three Facebook profiles, they are: Personal Profiles, Groups and Pages.  “Personal Profiles” are designed to connect and socialise with your friends and family.  “Groups” focus less on a person, brand or business and more on a shared interest.  Unlike Pages, Groups have a 5000-member limit.  Pages can tie in with your account or brand, while Groups stand-alone.  Groups do well for non-profits, interests and causes.

GENERAL FACEBOOK INFORMATION

Not all of us have well known brands like McDonalds.   If you’re a micro business (1-5 employees) consider setting up a Facebook page for your shop or business, product or service name where you can add keywords.  People are more likely to subscribe or become a ‘Fan’ to your Page when they see the topic that follows the business name.

For example, as the captain of our team, instead of creating the Page using my name, I created our Facebook Page using our team name “Etsy Marketing Made Easy.”

Creating a new Facebook page requires picking a category for your Page. There are six choices: “Local Business or Place”, “Company, Organisation, or Institution”, “Brand or Product”, “Artist, Band or Public Figure”, “Entertainment”, “Cause or Community”.  For our Etsy team Page, I decided that “Local Business or Place” wouldn’t be appropriate, as all of our members are located in many different countries around the globe. I could have selected “Artist, Band, or Public Figure.” Not because I think I’m famous, but because it has a “Writer” subcategory.  However, I decided to go with “Brand or Product” as it has “Professional Service” subcategory, which is a good fit for our team. Take a look at the categories and their subcategories to see where you best fit.

Setting Up Your Page in five easy steps

STEP 1.

Open Facebook and click on “Create a Page” it is LOCATED directly under the green “Sign Up button.”

Facebook Home Page

STEP 2.

Choose and click on a category that is most likely to suit your business.  “Brand or Product” would suit most Etsy shop owners.  If your shop only services the local area then consider choosing “Local Business or Place.”

Facebook Create a Page

STEP 3.

Under “Choose a Category” in the “Brand or Product” column, type in your business name.  Tick that you agree with FB terms and conditions and click “Get Started” and you’re now on your way to a business FB Page.

Facebook Create a Page

STEP 4.

Facebook will now take you to the Create an Account page where you will complete your personal details.

STEP 5.

Your Facebook Page is almost complete.  All you need to do is add your business profile picture, post a status update, promote your page on your website and complete your business details and voilà you are now the official owner of your very own Facebook business page.
